When I first started my career as a wedding hair and makeup artist, one of my most significant opportunities came from a completely free styled shoot collaboration. Many of the vendors involved were also just beginning their journeys in the industry. We all shared a common understanding: building something extraordinary required a blend of vision, raw talent, and collective effort.

In those early days, I tirelessly donated my time and talent, offering hair and makeup services free of charge. This commitment wasn’t just about gaining experience—it was a strategic move to establish myself in Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC competitive beauty industry. The goal was simple: create quality work, build a strong portfolio, and connect with as many people as possible.

My big turning point came when Shauna Veasey Photography teamed up with J. Elliot, a talented stylist, interior designer, and the (then) venue owner of Vinewood Stables. Together, they conceptualized an elaborate, moody-yet-extravagant styled shoot that turned out to be a game-changer. Their vision came to life with incredible detail and creativity, culminating in a feature in Weddings Unveiled Magazine.

The October 2015 release of this six-page spread was a turning point for all of us. For me, it marked the moment Beauty Asylum truly began to take shape. The recognition opened doors across Metro Atlanta and beyond, and it laid the foundation for the brand I’ve worked so hard to build.

Looking back, that collaboration wasn’t just a styled shoot—it was the launch!
