Looking at these beautiful wedding day photos on the beach, you’d never guess the whirlwind of events leading up to the moment Christina said “I do.”
The week of the wedding, the weather center forecasted a hurricane set to hit Charleston, SC, creating a storm of uncertainty. Throughout the week, our Beauty Asylum (BA) admin team stayed in close communication with our bride-to-be, keeping her updated on our travel plans.
Wedding Day
Originally, we planned to arrive the night before the wedding to prepare for an early morning start. However, with the worst of the storm scheduled to hit that evening, we made the decision to postpone the drive for our stylist team from Charlotte, NC, to Charleston until the storm had passed.
The commute from Charlotte to Charleston takes about three hours each way. With a scheduled start time of 9 a.m., our team planned to leave at 5:15 a.m., giving ourselves a cushion for travel on wedding day.
Little did we know, Charleston is below sea level, and all roads leading into Charleston would be completely flooded. As we approached the city, we found the interstate blocked, with police directing cars to turn around. The unexpected detour and impassable roads added a layer of uncertainty to the challenge of getting to our bride.
Jessica Lyness, the BA Owner, quickly went into problem-solving mode by hopping on a call with her artistry team. She walked them through a (DOT) map detailing road closures. However, the traveling crew encountered numerous obstacles as they attempted to navigate back roads. They repeatedly hit dead ends due to flooded roads, preventing them from finding passable routes.
While the team on the ground adjusted their route by following other drivers, Jessica pivoted and contacted the Charleston stylist team to arrange for more services to start earlier.
With open communication to the bride and wedding planner, our Charleston hair and makeup artists began working swiftly to keep the timeline on track. Meanwhile, the two Charlotte artists faced a grueling journey, arriving three hours late after spending over six hours in the car. Despite the challenges, our team was fully dedicated to bringing Christina's hair and makeup vision to life.
Upon their arrival, the Charlotte artists jumped into action, focusing on the bride first to ensure she was ready. Once Christina’s look was perfected, they moved seamlessly to the bridal party, working with precision and care.
In the end, our team finished just 45 minutes behind schedule. As if on cue, the clouds parted, and sunshine lit the path as Christina walked down the aisle, creating a perfect moment to begin her journey as a bride.
